Session 1 - Literacy

  • We are going to be starting our topic on 'Houses and Homes'. Read the story below by Michael Rosen. It is about a boy called George who makes a house using a cardboard box.
  • I am pleased the story has a happy ending and George decides that his house is for everyone.
  • We are now going to think about our own homes and what they look like. Ask your adult to look at the front of your house with you and talk about what you can see. Can you see the roof? How many windows can you see? What shape are they? Do you have a number and a letterbox on your front door?
  • Once you've had a good talk about what your house looks like, we are going to draw pictures of our own homes. Remember to try and add all the bits you can see. In school, we have been working hard to add lots of detail to our pictures when drawing and painting. So take you time with your pictures.
  • Once you have drawn your pictures, we are then going to add our labels i.e. door, window, roof, handle, letterbox, chimney, wall etc. We are trying to sound out our own words when writing. Say each word clearly and listen carefully to the sounds that you can hear when writing.
  • Please ask your adult to email me pictures of your homes. I always look forward to seeing your work.

Learning Break - Time for our milk and fruit and some fresh air in our outdoor area.

Session 2 - Phonics

  • Say all the letter sounds from  'a' to 'z'

  • We are going to learn a new sound today. There are 3 letters and only one sound, so this is called a trigraph. Our new sound is, 'igh'. Say the sound together with your adult.
  • We are now going to see the sound in words. Ask your adult to write down these words for you, high, light. sight, might, fright, fight. Use your phonic skills to sound out each word as you read it. Can you think of any more words that have the 'igh' sound?
  • Click on the link below to say the 'igh' sound and to see it in words.
  • We are going to read and spell our tricky words from Phase 2. Practise reading the words below and then have a go at spelling them. Remember each word has a tricky part to them.
  • We are going to now read the tricky words from Phase 3. Look at the words on the mat below and read the words with the help of your adult. Once you have read the words try and spell; me, we, he, she

Lunch time - Have a lovely lunch everyone.

Session 3 - Mathematics

  • We are going to be focussing on subtraction this week in our Mathematics. Let's remind ourselves of some of the words that we use when we are taking away i.e. minus, subtract, take away, less, leaves.
  • Start at the number 10 and count backwards to zero. Can you start at 20 and count backwards to zero?
  • Click on the subtraction songs below and notice how each time there are less.
  • We are now going to look at some subtraction number sentences. Ask an adult to write down some subtraction number sentences i.e. 6 - 3 =?,  9 - 5=?, 5 - 5 =? etc. Read each number sentence using the key vocabulary that we have been using. Once you have read the number sentence use your own digits or other objects around your home to help you subtract. Once you have taken some away, count how many there are left.
  • Listen out for the key vocabulary in the subtraction song below.

Learning Break

Session 4 - Singing

  • Use your charanga log in to access our music site. Choose some songs that you like and clock on these to sing along with.
  • Last week we all learnt the song, 'Wind the Bobbin Up'. Can we all choose this one again and sing along whilst doing the actions.
  • We are going to learn a new song now - 'Rock-a-bye Baby'. Listen to the song and then sing along.

Session 5 - Story

  • As we are starting our topic on 'Houses and Homes', we are going to end our day with a lovely story by Inga Moore. It's called 'A House in the Woods'.

I hope you have all had a lovely day. Well done everyone for working so hard.
