Session 5 - Story

Try and carry out your daily reading tasks at a time that suits you and your adult. We are trying to use the range of terms about books i.e. author, illustrator, spine, cover, page, blurb etc. Enjoy sharing your books and remember to talk about the stories you have read. Try and sound out your own words when reading and look out for those tricky words.
I hope you all have a lovely day. I look forward to seeing pictures of your work.

Session 1 - Literacy

  • We are going to be thinking about Chinese New Year this week. Listen to the story below that explains Chinese New Year and how each year can to be named after an animal.
  • All the 12 animals had a race and each year in the Chinese Zodiac came to be named after each animal. Draw a picture of the 12 animals that swam across the river. Which animal came first? Write the name of each animal next to their picture.
  • Listen to the story again and see if you can remember the order in which the animals finished the race. This year 2021, it is the Year of the Ox.
  • Watch the clip below which shows the animals having their race across the river.
  • Talk about the story with your adult in your own words. How did rat win the race? Which animal came second last?
Session 2 - Phonics
  • Let's say all our speed sounds together. Click on the video below and say each sound as you see it.

  • Remember there are some words that we can't sound out - these are called tricky words. Sing the song below to try and learn the tricky words.
Lunch Time - I hope you all have a lovely lunch and a well deserved learning break.

Session 3 - Topic Work

  • We are finding out about Chinese New Year this week and how the festival is celebrated. Click on the video below to find out about this festival and how it is celebrated.
  • Talk about the clip you have just seen with your adult. How did the family celebrate Chinese New Year? What did they see? Where did they go? What did they do?
  • Can you draw your own picture to show how the family celebrated the new year i.e. dancing, the parade, the dragon dance etc?
  • Ask your adult to email me some pictures of your work, I always enjoy seeing the work you have completed at home.

Session 4 - Singing

  • Use the songs below to try and find out more about Chinese New Year.
