  • Continue to read the range of books allocated on your Bug Club. Remember to click on the Bug and answer the questions asked.
  • Read a collection of books from your house. Before reading look at the cover and read the blurb. Can you predict what you think is going to happen before you start to read?
  • Can you find the name of the author and illustrator before you read a book?
  • After reading, discuss the story with your adult. Talk about the key events, the characters and how they feel at different points in the story, discuss the beginning and the story ending.
  • Always give your own opinions about books. Discuss your favourite books, explaining why you like them. Talk about any dislikes, giving reasons as to why you didn't like a story. Talk about favourite characters and favourite events in stories.
  • Look at non-fiction books on Bug Club and any that you have at your house. Talk about the features of these and the information that you can gain by reading them.
  • Make sure you can read confidently the high frequency words on the Year 1 list. It will really help you if you can read these words confidently.
  • If you are already confident with all the Year 1 words, then have a try at reading some of the Year 2 common exception words
