The Titanic

  • Can you make your own porthole like one of the examples here?
  • Can you find out more about the different parts of the Titanic and design your own first class cabin?
  • Look at the different menus for first, second and third class passengers. How do the differ? Can you make up your own menu for these passengers. Use a supermarket website to cost up the price. menus here.
  • Can you investigate which objects sink and float and look at how boats are designed? Can you design and make your own boat and test it to see if it works?
  • Watch this video of the Northern Lights. Can you find out more about them? Make your own Northern lights picture.

Life in the Polar Regions

 

  • Imagine that you were going on an expedition to the arctic. What would you need to take? Can you make a list of things that you need and why you need them?
  • What sorts of clothes would you need? What would it need to be? What might be the best material for it? Could you design your own suit for going to the Arctic? You need to investigate what material it would need to be made out of.
  • Can you find out more about the people that live in the Polar regions. Look at how they live and make a report about what you have found out.
  • investigate what an igloo is and how it is made. Can you draw or make a model of an igloo? Some ideas here.

This week we are looking at how the Polar regions are change because of climate change.

Read the power point about climate change and the Polar regions. Read this information.

Find out more about how climate change is affected the polar regions and our world. Watch this video here.

Find out different ways we can stop this.

Write a letter or make a poster  explaining what is happening and how we can help stop it.

Music - Carnival in Brazil and Samba music

  • Read the powerpoint about the carnival in Brazil. 
  • Use the internet to find out more about Carnival and produce a powerpoint to explain what it is about. Remember to put photos and captions too.
  • Listen to the samba music and explain how it makes you feel. 
  • Write an acrostic poem with the letters CARNIVAL / SAMBA.
  • Find out more about the instruments that are used in samba music. samba drumming.
  • Design you own samba mask and head dress.
  • Design and make your own model carnival float.

Life in the rainforest

This week we are looking at food in the rainforest. Here are som activities to have a go at:

 

Geography (linked to science) - Food from the rainforest

Can you guess the names of the different foods from the rainforest? 

Can you find out more about some of them?

ICT - Can you make a powerpoint of the information you have found?

Try to taste some of the foods you have never tried. Complete a taste review sheet.

Art - Can you try to sketch in detail one of the foods. Use you pencil in different ways to put on the detail. 

Dt - Can you make one of the recipes? Give a review of what it tasted like.

Henri Rousseau was a famous artist who painted pictures of animals in their habitat.

  • Look at the pictures below. What do you see? How do they make you feel?
  • Read the power point and find out more about Henri Rousseau
  • Can you use pencils or paint to re-create one of these pictures?
  • See if you can find more examples of his work.
  • Can you make your own rain forest animal picture in a similar style to Henri Rousseau?

VE DAY

On Friday, it is a bank holiday in England because it is a special day - we are celebrating the 75th anniversary of VE Day. 75 years that marks the end of World War Two. Our topic last term was World War Two so you already know lots about it. Your task this week is to prepare for a party to celebrate VE day. Have a go at some of these activities.

  • Find out more about what VE day is

  • Explain how it was celebrated  in 1945
  • Plan your own VE house party - make invites, bunting, posters and other decorations

  • Find and listen to music in WW2 times. Vera Lynn was popular them Choose your favourite song and explain why you like it.

  • Find out where other rain forests can be found in the world and put them on the map
  • Can you find out the difference between tropical and temperate rain forests?
  • Write an information report about a different rain forest of your choice. Make sure you include; headings, facts, paragraphs and a fact box

  • Find a famous place or monument in Brazil. Can you draw, sketch or paint a picture of it?
  • Romero Britto is a famous Brazilian painter. Can you copy one of his pictures in a similar style?
