Session 1 Mathematics

  • We are thinking about subtraction this week. Sing the song below and notice the subtraction vocabulary being used.
  • We are going to be using a number line to subtract. Last week we used our number lines for addition and we were jumping forwards. This week for subtraction we will be jumping backwards along our number lines. Click on the link below to see how we are going to be using our number lines.
  • Write your own number line, showing the numbers from 0 to 10. Then ask your adult to write some subtraction number sentences i.e. 9 - 5 =?, 7 - 4 =?, 8 - 7 =? Read each number sentence, remembering to use the key vocabulary we have been using in school. Use your number line to find the answer to each question. Remember you need to jump backwards when taking away.
  • Can you read your completed number sentences to your adult.
  • Use the link below and use the number line to find 1 less than a given number.

Learning Break We have been very busy using our number lines to subtract and are now ready for our well deserved break time. We will be having our milk or water and fruit in school. Enjoy your healthy snack everyone.

Session 3 - Topic Work

  • This week are focussing on Houses and Homes. Yesterday, we enjoyed the super story by the author Michael Rosen. This story was about a little boy called George and how he made a house using a cardboard box. Talk about the story, 'This Is Our House' in your own words with your adult.
  • Click in the link and let's listen to the story again, to remind ourselves of all the things that happened.
  • Yesterday we drew pictures of our own houses and thought carefully about all the different aspects we could see when looking at our own homes.
  • Today we are going to be making some 3D models of houses. We are going to be using our cutting and sticking skills. We are also going to be using our designing and making skills.
  • Ask your adult if there is an old / empty cardboard box that you can use. Look at the picture that you drew of your house yesterday and discuss the things that you can see i.e. window, roof, chimney, door etc.
  • Discuss and plan how you can make a 3D model of your house. In school we are going to be using wooden blocks, lego and junk modelling materials. We will be talking about the shapes of our houses and the features that we have observed. We try to add these into our models.
  • If we are using junk modelling materials our adult in school will be working with us and together we will be planning, assembling and joining different materials to make a model of our house. We will try to include all the things that we have seen when observing our homes.
  • I am really looking forward to seeing pictures of your models that you have made.

Learning Break

Session 4 - Singing

  • We always enjoy lots of singing in school. Let's start by sharing some of our favourite Nursery Rhymes. Let's sing along and do the actions.
  • Yesterday we sang the song 'Rock-a-Bye-Baby' on the Charanga website. Let's use our own login details and sing this song again.
  • Next can you find the song on Charanga, '5 Little Monkeys' and let's sing along together. Each time there is 1 less and we have been using a number line to find 1 less than in our Mathematics.

Session 5 Story

  • Let's enjoy an end of day story together. I have a chosen a story from our Nick Sharratt collection. The title is, 'Something Beginning with Blue'. The story is a game of 'I Spy' and we have to peep through the holes and follow the clues. Can you guess what's hiding there? Hope you all enjoy the story.
