Session 5 - Story

I hope you all have a lovely day and enjoy the learning activities. Try your best and I always look forward to seeing pictures of your work. Remember to do your daily reading at a time that suits you and your adult. Take regular learning and fresh air breaks. Keep active and have fun.
As you work through the day, try and notice the times; 9 o'clock, 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock etc. We are trying to learn these times, so try and have a look at the clock to see when it is an o'clock time. At 9 o'clock we start our school day, we eat lunch at 12 o'clock, school finishes at 3 o'clock. What time do you have your tea? What time do you go to bed? Try and make a note of these times.

Session 1 - Literacy

  • We are thinking about Chinese New Year this week. In our Literacy today we are going to be writing a list of how people prepare for and celebrate Chinese New Year. We are trying to sound out our own words when writing, using some of the sounds we have been learning in our phonics lessons.
  • Watch the clip below to find out how people get ready for the festival and how it is celebrated.
  • Whilst watching the clip, I wrote down on a list some of the preparations that are made for the Chinese New Year celebrations:
  1. spring cleaning
  2. putting up decorations
  3. putting up lanterns
  4. wearing new clothes
  5. preparing a special meal
  • Can you have a go at writing your own list? Remember a list is different to a sentence; a list helps us to remember things.  Whilst writing, try and sound out your own words.
  • Lots of things occur during Chinese New Year, it's a very colourful and exciting festival. After watching the clip can you talk about the things that you like best.
  • Maybe you could draw a picture of some of the things that happen. I especially like the dragon dance because it's really exciting and the dancers are very talented.
Session 2 - Phonics
  • Listen to the song below and join in with the sounds.
  • We are going to be focussing on the 'ee' sound - What can you see? Watch the video below to remind yourselves of this sound and to use it in words.

Use the 'ee' sound in words

  • Ask your adult say a tricky word from the mats below. Have a go at reading this word and then spell it. Make sure you know which is the tricky bit of it before you spell.
Lunch Time - Enjoy your lunch everyone and a well deserved learning break.

Session 3 - Mathematics

  • We are thinking about time today, especially o'clock times. Look at the slides below and have a go at telling the the time.
  • Notice different o'clock times throughout the day. What time does the school day start? what time do we have lunch? What time does school finish? What time do you have your tea? What time do you go to bed?
  • Can you write down these times with your adult? Look at your clock regularly throughout the day and say the time with your adult.
Session 4 - Singing
  • Use the songs below to help you tell the time.
Session 5 - Story
Let's enjoy an end of day story.
