Session 1 - Literacy

  • In our Literacy today we are going to be working on the story, 'A House in the Woods' by the author Inga Moore. We had this as our end of day story on Monday. Can you remember what happened in the story? Talk with your adult and see in you can recall the key events from the story.
  • Click on the link below to listen to the story again.
  • Did you remember all the key events? Today in our lesson we are going to working on our retrieval skills.
  • First of all, can you find and recall all the characters in the story i.e. the 2 little pigs, Moose, Bear, the Beavers etc ? Can you draw a picture of these characters and write their names? Look carefully at the illustrations to notice what the characters look like.
  • Next, can you choose 1 key event from the story? Look carefully at the event that you have chosen and discuss in your own words what is happening. Draw a picture to show what is happening and ask your adult to help you write a short caption / sentence to record the scene. Remember we are learning how to sound out our own words when writing.
  • Once completed, ask your adult to email me a picture of your work so I can see the event that you have chosen. I also like to see your pictures and the super writing that you are all doing.
  • Using the picture / event that you have chosen, now discuss the event that came before and what will happen next. We are using our retrieval skills and we are working on sequencing events in the right order. Can you remember what came before and what will happen next? Go back to the book to see if you recalled the events correctly?
  • Can you talk about your favourite part of the book, giving reasons as to why it is your favourite? Is there anything about the story that you dislike? It's always great to share our opinions about books and stories. We have different opinions to others and it's always great to hear what others think and feel.

  • We are going to look closely at the tricky word, 'me'. Say the word and look carefully at the tricky part of it. The 'e' is the tricky bit of the word as we can hear the 'm' sound. Read the word and then have a go at spelling the word.
  • Well done everyone for working really hard in phonics. We are learning lots of new sounds and making super progress with our blending and segmenting.

Lunchtime - We have had a super morning and are now ready for our lunch. Enjoy your lunch everyone.

Session 3 - Mathematics

  • We are focussing on subtraction this week in our Mathematics. Let's start by singing a subtraction song to help us remember some of the key vocabulary we need to use.
  • We are using our number lines this week to subtract. When we are taking away, we jump backwards along the number line.
  • Click on the video below to watch subtraction using a number line.
  • Ask your adult to write you some subtraction number sentences. Use your number line and jump backwards to find the answer.
  • Ask your adult to email me pictures of your number line work.
  • Well done everyone for being super mathematicians. We are making super progress and are becoming much more confident with both addition and subtraction.

Session 4 - Singing

  • As we are thinking about subtraction this week, we are going to be singing songs where each time 1 goes away and we have 1 less. Click on the songs below and use your digits to show 1 less than each time.

Session 5 Story

  • Enjoy listening to the story, 'Really, Really' by Kes Gray and Nick Sharratt. Do you remember the story, 'Eat Your Peas? Daisy is here again and this time she tries to fool her babysitter. Will she get away with it?
