Session 5 - Story

Carry out your daily reading tasks at a time that suits you and your adult. Try and use the correct terms about books when reading i.e. cover, spine, author, illustrator, blurb etc. Read books that you have at your house and also books that are on your Bug Club. Let me know which books you have enjoyed and the reasons why. I love hearing your own opinions about books and the stories that you have enjoyed.

Take regular breaks throughout the day, get some fresh air and keep active. We are all missing you lots and are really looking forward to when we can all be back together. We enjoy seeing your work and we love looking in our photo gallery to see all the things you have been doing at home. Have a great day all of you.

Session 1 Literacy
  • We have been thinking about houses and the materials that they are made from. In our literacy today we are going to be focussing on the fairy tale, 'Hansel and Gretel'. This features a house that is made from sweets and gingerbread!
  • Listen to the story below. The story below by Bethan Woollvin has a different twist to the traditional fairytale.

  • After listening to the story, can you name the key characters in the story? Maybe you could draw a picture of these and write their names.
  • In this story, 'Willow' the witch is a good witch and Hansel and Gretel are quite mischievous. Discuss the key events with your adult and the things that Hansel and Gretel get up to.
  • Draw a picture to show 1 event from the story and write a simple sentence to show what is happening.
  • Please ask your adult to email me some pictures of your work. I always enjoy seeing this.

Session 2 - Phonics

  • Let's say all the speed sounds together. Click on the video below and say the speed sounds.

  • Try and apply your phonic skills in your own reading. Look at the captions below and try and sound out the words as you read.
  • Try and apply your phonic skills in your own spelling. Ask you adult to say a word i.e. moon and then sound out the word as you spell it. Repeat with other words and try and use some of the new sounds that we have been learning.
  • Sing the tricky word song below, to remind yourself that there are some words we cannot decode phonetically. They have tricky bits to them!
Lunch Time - Have a lovely lunch all of you and a well deserved learning break.

Heavier and Lighter

Session 3 - Mathematics

  • We are going to be thinking about 'heavier' and 'lighter' in our mathematics today. We are going to be comparing 2 objects and saying which one is 'heavier' and which one is 'lighter.' Click on the slides below to explore heavier and lighter.
  • Look at objects around your home. Can you find objects that are light and heavy? We can easily pick up objects that are light i.e. a spoon, a pencil etc. However some objects are too heavy for us to pick up. Name the objects that you find.
  • If you have some scales at your house can you compare the weight of 2 objects. Use your scales to see which one is heavier and which object is lighter.

Session 4 - Singing

  • Use the songs below to further explore measurement. We have been learning lots of vocabulary so far this week relating to measurement.

Session 5 - Story

  • Let's enjoy an end of day story. Listen out for the terms; book, cover, page, spine, author, illustrator, blurb, title. Try and use these terms yourself when looking at books with your adult.
