Part of Every Child Matters Academy TrustAt Ladywood Primary School, the intent of the MFL (French) curriculum is to ensure that pupils gain systematic knowledge of the three pillars of language learning - phonics, grammar and vocabulary - in an enjoyable and stimulating way. We aim to embed the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing to enable the children to use and apply their language learning in a variety of contexts and to lay the foundations for future language learning. We use the Primary Language Network Scheme of work to ensure children get the opportunity to hear native French speakers and correct pronunciation. We provide an introduction to the culture of France so that children develop a tolerance and respect of different people and places, whilst fostering their curiosity and understanding of the wider world.
