Primary School
Part of Every Child Matters Academy TrustWe started by looking at the definition of seasonal food. We then discovered that seasonal food is not the same in other parts of the world. Some foods that are in season where we live, will not be readily available in other parts of the world.
We linked this to our knowledge of the Northern hemisphere and the Southern hemisphere. In science, we learnt that when it is summer in Britain, it is winter in the Southern hemisphere. This is why some foods that are not in season in Britain, are available all year round in supermarkets.
We then looked at reared, caught and processed foods. We created our own seasonality charts on the food available in Britain.
