Primary School
Part of Every Child Matters Academy TrustCommon exception words are words that do not follow the common phonetic spelling rules children learn in Year 1 and Year 2. Many of these exception words are used frequently, hence the use of 'common' in the name.
Each week, we will be learning a new spelling rule and will have spellings to practise. Also included will be some of the common exception words from the lists above. There will be time in school to practise but please try and find some time at home to help your child learn the spelling rule. These rules are quite tricky! You don’t need to send their spelling sheet back to school. This is theirs to keep at home so that they can keep practising. Use the Roll and Spell game to make spelling practise a bit more fun.
