Common exception words are words that do not follow the common phonetic spelling rules children learn in Year 1 and Year 2. Many of these exception words are used frequently, hence the use of 'common' in the name.
Each week your child will bring home a spelling sheet, which is personal to them. Highlighted in yellow are the words they can already spell. Underlined in red are the words they need to practise each week. Would you please help your child to practise these spellings ready for their spelling test on Thursday. You don’t need to send their spelling sheet back to school. This is theirs to keep at home so that they can practise each day. I will send a new updated sheet home after their spelling test. Use the Roll and Spell game to make spelling practise a bit more fun.
