  • FREE £15 VOUCHER MATCH SCHEME

    Wed 29 Jul 2020

The Community Shop are offering families who are eligible for free school meals the opportunity to double their money with an additional £15 per child per week. For every week during the school holidays you can collect a £15 voucher, per child, per week to spend in their stores. This is open to members and non-members.

All you need to do is call into one of the stores and show your eligibility for free school meals. The store will then provide you with a voucher. So if you have three children, you can collect £45 to spend in store every week of the holidays

See the attached information regarding the Company Shop school meal voucher offer – as you can see, they are offering a free £15 voucher every week to free meal recipients who spend their vouchers in either Company or Community Shops (Tankersley, Athersley and Goldthorpe).  They have also relaxed membership to enable everyone to shop there.

  • Beat the Street Summer Challenge

    Thu 16 Jul 2020

    The Summer Challenge

The Summer Challenge booklet is free for families to download and print at home. It’s full of free, fun activities to keep your family moving throughout the summer.

The booklet includes an adventurer’s checklist, playing backyard basketball or learning a new game from your family member’s childhood and many more exciting challenges. Kids are encouraged to complete acts of kindness while they’re being active and to write down how they feel when they’re moving their body more.

Unfortunately, due to Coronavirus, Beat the Street is unable to take place this year in Barnsley, so this booklet has been created with lots of fun challenges to keep kids moving instead.

  • FUSION Creative Camps – Coming to Barnsley in Summer 2020

    Wed 15 Jul 2020

FUSION Creative Camps are coming to Barnsley… an all new, interactive online holiday club for families.

Over three weeks this summer professional artists and cultural organisations will introduce weekly challenges for children to explore via drama, art, crafts, forest school, music and dance activities using Zoom. Families will be supported by the artists via a closed Facebook group with an online group show and tell at the end of their week to celebrate everyone’s achievements!

The activities are designed to be fun and as easy as possible for families of all artistic abilities to take part. There will be at least one option that does not require the use of any resources and those that do will be made up of basic materials found around the house.

How to take part in Creative Camps weekly themed activities…

Step 1: Families sign up for a FREE weekly themed activity via Eventbrite - including Explorers and Exploration, This Is Me and Outdoor Adventuring.

Step 2: Watch a short film where the artist introduces the activities.

Step 3: Online interactive session (no more than 40 mins) - an opportunity for families to meet the artist/organisation who will set the challenge.  Families have a week to complete their chosen activity.

Step 4: Mid-week Facebook drop-in session where families can get creative in real time, show each other what they have created so far and get helpful hints and tips.

Step 5: Virtual show and tell - practitioners will run a show and tell at the end of the week OR give the option for families to send photos of their work to an online gallery on Fusion’s website.

Families can sign up for as many weeks as they like, just one or all three! Activities will be suitable for children aged from 4 to 11 years. Participating artists include Chol Theatre, Barnsley Museums, Open College of the Arts, Barnsley Libraries and many more.

Limited availability – visit:  www.barnsleyfusion.co.uk to book your FREE place. Follow us on Facebook@FUSIONBCEP to find out more. For more details contact:  saramair@barnsley.gov.uk.

  • Get ready for September. Apply now for a MegaTravel Pass

    Thu 09 Jul 2020

Cheaper travel is available for all under 16s living in South Yorkshire with a MegaTravel Pass.

MegaTravellers can travel in South Yorkshire for a single fare of 80p per journey on buses or trams. They can also buy discounted 1, 7 or 28 day tickets, which are loaded onto the pass, which might be cheaper if they travel regularly.

Under 16s travelling without a valid pass may be charged full fare, so even if your pupils are not travelling on public transport right now, we’re encouraging early application so they’re ready to go in September.

The pass proves a child is eligible to travel for the concessionary fare on public transport in South Yorkshire.

Instructions on how to apply for a MegaTravel Pass are available here.
