As a result of the Prime Minister's announcement at 8pm this evening of a new national lockdown and the closure of schools, school will unfortunately be closed TO ALL PUPILS on Tuesday 5th January.

This will enable us to make the arrangements necessary to move to remote learning for most pupils and to in school provision for the children of critical workers and those classed as vulnerable.

We emailed all parents this morning to request updated critical worker status information, if you are a critical worker and have not yet replied to this email, a link to the most recent government guidance and our questionnaire are below. If you are a critical worker and require in school provision for your child/ren, please now complete and submit this form by 10am on 5th Jan.

  • Staying safe at school

    Fri 13 Nov 2020
  • Staying safe outside of school

    Fri 06 Nov 2020

    During the current national lockdown:

Please remember that children aren't able to meet up with friends outside of school, even if they're in the same school bubble.

We know this time is hard and everyone will be missing socialising with their friends, but we all need to do our bit to help stop the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Keeping in touch with friends and family is really important - video/phone calls, text messaging and sending cards or letters are great ways to do this whilst staying safe.

  • Barnsley children to receive financial support for food over the half term holidays

    Fri 23 Oct 2020

Thousands of Barnsley children will benefit from new financial support for food during half term week funded by Barnsley Council, as it backs Marcus Rashford’s campaign to provide free school meals during school holidays.

The council wants to guarantee that children, parents and carers who need additional support over the half term holiday are given it, independent of any national decisions.

Barnsley Council Leader, Cllr Sir Steve Houghton CBE, said: "We’ve already seen how the COVID-19 pandemic has really hit families affected by financial hardship.

"Going into Tier Three – the Very High category – from tomorrow, will place further restriction on people’s lives and livelihoods, making it even harder for people who are struggling to support their children.

“We don’t want to see children who receive free school meals go hungry over half term so a payment of £15 - the same amount as free school meal funding - will be made per child to eligible families.

“This will support approximately 8,700 children across the borough at a cost of £130,000 if all those eligible claim the funding.”

Families can access the funding by making a claim via barnsley.gov.uk/money-advice-and-support. This page also has details of other financial support available.

People can also call 01226 787787 and choose option 3.

  • NHS Test & Trace

    Fri 25 Sep 2020
NHS Test & Trace have issued a useful fact sheet to explain how the new NHS Covid-19 app works. Click here to read the fact sheet and a letter from NHS Test & Trace which explains when a child requires a coronavirus (COVID-19) test and what the symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are.
The intention of the letter is to support parents and carers in identifying when their child needs to self-isolate as a result of displaying coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms and answer some of the questions parents may have around testing.
  • Catch-Up Sessions

    Wed 23 Sep 2020
    Dear Parent/Carer,

There was some confusion this morning as some children arrived early for their catch-up sessions and others later for the normal start of the day. It was really good to see so many children turning up for these sessions and taking advantage of the opportunity.

Some parents had missed the information on our newsletters so there is a reminder of this below and we hope to see these children on Friday.

We do need to make it much clearer what we expect children who are not attending the catch-ups to do when they arrive for their normal time as I must admit that this was a little confused this morning.

On Friday and on future catch-up days, the following should be followed:

Catch-up Session Start Times (Wednesdays & Fridays)

8.15am          Year 5 & 6     children arrive for catch up and queue on their lines

8.30am         Year 1 & 2     children arrive for catch up and queue on their lines

8.45am         Year 3 & 4     children arrive for catch up and queue on their lines

Normal School Start Times – If your child does not attend the Government driven catch-up sessions they should queue at their normal start times as follows:

8.45am         Year 5 & 6     children queue on the lines by their classroom door

9.00am         Year 1 & 2     children queue on their lines as normal

9.15am          Year 3 & 4     children queue on their lines as normal

When the catch-up sessions end (each session is 30 minutes) a member of staff from the classroom will come out to collect those children who have not attended the catch-up session from the line.

Children will not enter via the main entrance as some did today, this was unmanageable and I am sure that this will run much smoother from Friday. Please help us to limit numbers on site and to adhere to social distancing by arriving as close to your start time as possible.

    Yours sincerely,

    Mrs CL Grainger-Roystone

    Headteacher

  • DROP-OFF & PICK-UP ROUTINES

    Tue 22 Sep 2020

    Dear Parent/Carer,

Over recent days we have become increasingly concerned about the number of parents choosing to collect their child at the school gate. The large number of parents who are now gathering outside the gates at home time raises a number of concerns such as our ability to ensure effective social distancing and the protection of our school bubbles, as well as the impact on other pedestrians in the area amongst several others. We appreciate that the 1-way system and staggered finish times may be inconvenient but in the current climate and as the situation continues to escalate quickly, we must ensure that our protective measures remain robust. WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT, we will therefore NOT allow children to walk to the gate to meet their parent/carer. ALL adults must collect their child from the designated pick-up points on the school playground unless your child walks home alone.

Our staggered start and finish times are a key measure in keeping our class bubbles separate and minimising the risk of transmission of Covid across our school community, I would remind all parents to be aware of this when dropping off and picking up your children. Children should not be collecting conkers at school or running around the playground as this leads to children from different classes or bubbles mixing, ultimately this could impact our ability to remain open should we have a positive case. It is therefore extremely important that children stay in line, or with their parents, whilst waiting to go into school. I would also remind parents to be aware of the ‘rule of 6’ when waiting in the playground – please try to stay in your household bubbles if possible, no more than 6 people (including children) should gather together and you must maintain social distancing at all times.

You will be aware that the Prime Minister is going to make an announcement later today which is likely to impose further restrictions on us all in order to combat the current spike in infections. In anticipation of this and also in light of yesterday’s scientific evidence which pointed to a steep rise in infections over the next few weeks, we have reviewed our risk assessment and with effect from Monday 28th September all adults who can, will be required to wear a face covering on school premises. Staff will also wear a visor/mask on the school playground and whenever they are moving around school and are not in their own bubble.

Thankyou for your understanding and support.

  • FREE £15 VOUCHER MATCH SCHEME

    Wed 29 Jul 2020

The Community Shop are offering families who are eligible for free school meals the opportunity to double their money with an additional £15 per child per week. For every week during the school holidays you can collect a £15 voucher, per child, per week to spend in their stores. This is open to members and non-members.

All you need to do is call into one of the stores and show your eligibility for free school meals. The store will then provide you with a voucher. So if you have three children, you can collect £45 to spend in store every week of the holidays

See the attached information regarding the Company Shop school meal voucher offer – as you can see, they are offering a free £15 voucher every week to free meal recipients who spend their vouchers in either Company or Community Shops (Tankersley, Athersley and Goldthorpe).  They have also relaxed membership to enable everyone to shop there.
